WORKSHOP NOTES · OCTOBER 2, 2026

How much does a website really cost in Vero Beach?

Ask five web people and you'll get five numbers between "free" and "$25,000." Here's what local businesses actually pay, what drives the price, and the traps that cost people real money.

The four ways to get a website, with real numbers.

1. Do it yourself

$20–$50/MONTH + YOUR WEEKENDS

Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy's builder. The subscription is cheap. The hidden cost is you: learning the tool, writing every word, taking photos that don't look like mugshots, figuring out why the contact form doesn't work, and finding out six months later that Google barely knows the site exists. If your time is worth more than about $15 an hour, DIY is the most expensive option on this list.

2. Hire a freelancer

$1,500–$5,000 ONE TIME

A solo designer builds you a decent site and hands over the keys. Quality varies wildly — some are excellent, some vanish mid-project. You still pay hosting separately, and when something breaks in eight months, you're emailing someone who may have moved on. Fine if you find a good one and you're comfortable managing the tech yourself afterward.

3. Hire an agency

$5,000–$25,000+ ONE TIME

Discovery calls, wireframes, brand workshops, a project manager. You'll get a beautiful site. You'll also get a beautiful invoice, and when you want your hours changed in March, that's a billable change request. Agencies make sense for companies with marketing departments. For a Vero Beach contractor or restaurant, it's usually ten times more website than you need.

4. Managed monthly

FROM $25/MONTH, EVERYTHING INCLUDED

This is the option nobody quotes you because there's no big payday in it. A professional site built for you, hosted for you, updated for you, for one monthly number. No $5,000 invoice up front. When snowbird season hits and you need your hours changed, you text someone and it's done. This is what we do at Fair Price Websites — it's also just the most sensible way for a small business to buy a website.

What actually drives the price up or down.

Forget the sales talk. A website's cost comes down to a short list:

For most Treasure Coast small businesses, the honest answer is: you need a fast five-page site, your real photos, your phone number everywhere, and someone who answers when you need a change. That's it. Everything beyond that should earn its keep.

Three traps that cost real money.

1. You don't own your domain. Your domain name (yourbusiness.com) should be registered in YOUR name, always. Some builders register it under their account. If you ever leave, they own your web address. Ask before you sign: "Is the domain in my name?" Get it in writing.

2. The $99/month "maintenance" plan that maintains nothing. Ask what maintenance actually includes. Real maintenance means updates, backups, and someone who picks up the phone. Fake maintenance is an automatic charge for a site nobody touches. A managed monthly site should spell out exactly what's covered. (Not to be confused with our $99/month AI receptionist tier — that's a completely different thing: an AI employee answering your calls, not a website plan. Same number, different service.)

3. The two-year contract. A web company confident in its work doesn't need to lock you in for two years. Month-to-month with a fair setup process is the honest structure. If they need a contract to keep you, ask yourself why.

The bottom line.

A Vero Beach restaurant, contractor, or shop does not need a $10,000 website. It needs a fast site with real photos, clear services, a phone number that's impossible to miss, and someone local who handles the tech so you can run the business. That costs less per month than your coffee budget.

If you want to see what that looks like, look at real client sites — not mockups, not templates, actual businesses. Then decide.

Questions we actually get.

Can I get a good website for under $100 a month in Vero Beach?

Yes. Managed monthly websites start around $25 a month including hosting, updates, and support. For most small businesses that's everything you need — the $5,000 agency site and the $25 monthly site look nearly identical to your customers.

Should I build my own website on Wix or Squarespace?

Only if your time is worth nothing. The builder is $20–$50 a month, but the real cost is your weekends learning it, writing it, and fixing it — then discovering Google ignores it. Most owners who try DIY come to us six months later with a half-finished site.

Who owns my website if I pay monthly?

Your domain name must be registered in your name, always. The site design is typically licensed while you subscribe — stop paying and the site comes down, but your domain and Google presence stay yours. Run from anyone who holds your domain hostage.

How long does it take to get a website built?

Two to four weeks for a straightforward local business site, once you hand over your logo, photos, and info. The biggest delay is almost always the owner not sending content — gather your photos and service list first and you'll cut the timeline in half.
